Military action between the two countries has been taking place in Iraq which forms part of Iran`s western border.

 

두 나라 사이에서의 군사적 행동이 이라크에서는 발생해오고 있습니다. 이라크는 이란의 서쪽 국경 일부를 형성하고 있습니다. 

 

1. military  a. 군사의 

   본문에서의 'miliary action' 군사적 행동 이라는 뜻입니다. 

 

   동사 take 을 써서 take military action 군사적 행동을 취하다 라는 의미로 활용합니다. 

   : The government has threatened to take military action if the rebels do not withdraw from the area.

 

2. take place 발생하다. 

   동의어는 happen, occur 등 입니다. 

 

   take the place of ... = take ...'s place  ...을 대신하다 라는 의미와 구분하셔야 합니다. 

    : Natural methods of pest control are now taking the place of chemicals. 

    : I had to find someone to take Jenny’s place.

 

3. form  v.  ... 을 형성하다. 
   = shape  v. 

   : People’s political beliefs are shaped by what they see in the papers.

 

4. border  n. 국경, 경계 

 

  국경, 경계 border 은 다음과 같이 활용됩니다. 

  border between ... 사이의 국경

  border with ... 와의 국경

  on the border 국경 지대에 있는 

 

  : the border between the US and Mexico

  : regular patrols along the border with France

  : a market town on the border of England and Wales

 

 

 

Grammar  

 

1. Military action between the two countries has been taking place in Iraq which forms part of Iran`s western border.

 

has/have been ~ing ... 

= has/have p.p. ... + be ~ing ... 입니다.  즉, '과거부터 해왔고 지금도 ~하고 있는 중이다' 라는 의미입니다. 

 

본문의 has been taking place (군사적 행동이) 과거부터 발생해왔고 지금도 발생하고 있는 중이다 라는 의미가 됩니다. 

 

 

2. Military action between the two countries has been taken place in Iraq which forms part of Iran`s western border.

 

발생하다 라는 의미의 happen, occur, take place 는 자동사이므로, 수동태로 쓸 경우, 어법상 틀린 표현이 됨에 유의하셔야 합니다. 

 

예를 들어, A third of accidental deaths [occur / are occurred] in the home. 

 

 

3. Military action between the two countries has been taking place in Iraq [where / which] forms part of Iran`s western border.

 

완전한 문장 + where + 완전한 문장.

완전한 문장 + which + 불완전한 문장.  임에 유의하셔야 합니다.

 

본문에서는 which + 주어가 없는 불완전한 문장이므로. where 이 올 수 없습니다.
