One of these assaults killed an American civilian contractor and wounded several members of the U.S. and Iraqi militaries on December 27th.

 

이러한 공격들 중 하나로 12월 27일에 미국 민간 contractor 한 명이 사망했고, 미국과 이라크 군인들 몇 명이 부상을 입었습니다.

 

 

1. assault  n.  공격, 폭행(a violent attack) 

 

  : He was charged with sexual assault.
  : an assault on a police officer

 

2. civilian  n. 민간인 

   즉,  a member of the police or the armed forces 가 아닌 사람을 말합니다. 

 

  : The bomb killed four soldiers and three civilians.

 

3. wound  v. ...을 부상 입히다. 

  to injure someone with a knife, gun etc  

 

  : Gunmen killed two people and wounded six others in an attack today.

  : Five people were killed and many others were seriously wounded in the attack.

 

 

What is the difference between injured and wounded? 

 

Two people were [injured / wounded] in this morning accident. 

Six soldiers were [injured / wounded] in the battle.

 

 

 

Grammar 

 

1. One of these assault killed an American civilian contractor and wounded several members of the U.S. and Iraqi militaries on December 27th. 

 

One of + 복수명사 ... 입니다. 

One of ...  중 하나 ... 라는 의미이므로, One of + 다음에는 '복수 명사'가 온다는 점에 유의하셔야 합니다. 

 

기억해두세요.

2. One of these assaults killed an American civilian contractor and [wound / wounded] several members of the U.S. and Iraqi militaries on December 27th.

 

wind - wound - wound  1. (길 등이) 구불구불하다. 구불구불 나아가다  2. (태엽, 필름 등)을 감다. 

wound - wounded - wounded  (총, 칼 등으로) ...을 부상 입히다. 

 

본문에서는 '부상입혔다'라는 의미이므로, wounded 입니다.
