CNN 10 news 로 한 문장씩 50번씩 shadowing 하도록 제작하였습니다.

그들은 레이더 측정, 위성 정보, 눈의 축적 데이터를 혼합하고 있고, 이로 인해 그들은 (육지를 덮고 있는) 빙상 아래 숨겨진 계곡의 위치를 확인할 수 있었다고 말합니다.

 

 

1. combine  v. ...을 혼합하다.   combination  n. 혼합 

   : Diets are most effective when combined with exercise.

 

 여러 호텔들을 한 곳에 혼합한 '호텔스컴바인'이라는 앱 ... 아시지요?   

 

2. cumul = to heap 으로 '쌓다'라는 어원입니다. 

 

  cumulative 누적적인 이라는 의미로,  cumulative learning  누적적인 학습 

  accumulate ...을 쌓다. 축적하다. 

 

 : It is unjust that a privileged few should continue to accumulate wealth.

 

 

3. 사물 S 동사 A to ~

            allow, cause, lead, enable, encourage, force  ... 일 경우, 

   '사물S로 인해서 A가 ~하다.' 라고 해석하세요. 

 

 : A 24-hour ceasefire allowed the two armies to reach an agreement.

 

 

4. locate  v. ...의 위치(소재)를 파악하다.  be located ... 에 위치하다. 

 

즉, locate 의 경우, 능동형으로 쓰일 경우,  '...의 위치(소재)를 파악하다.' 

                        수동형으로 쓰일 경우,  '...에 위치하다' 라고 해석합니다. 

 

 : We couldn’t locate the source of the radio signal.

 : The business is located right in the center of town.

 

 

Grammar

S allow A to ~ 입니다. 따라서 to locate 가 정답입니다. 

 

 

2. 다음 문장에서 어법상 틀린 곳을 찾아 바르게 수정하시오.

정답: to be located → to locate 

 

그들(them)이 계곡(a valley)의 위치(소재)를 파악하는 것이므로, 능동형 locate 로 수정해야 합니다.
