Between Iran and the United States military attacks and revenge attacks have dominated the headlines over the past couple weeks but there`s another event under investigation in Iran and abroad.

 

1. dominate  ...을 지배하다. 라는 뜻으로 

  동의어로는 rule, govern 등이 있습니다. 

  지배하다 라는 의미의 govern 으로부터 '정부'라는 의미의 government 가 파생한 것입니다. 

 

  형용사형은 dominant 지배적인   

 

 : The industry is dominated by five multinational companies.

 : Gradually, Microsoft became the dominant company in the software business.

 

 

2. investigate  v. ...을 조사(수사)하다. 

   investigation 은 명사형으로, '조사, 수사' 라는 의미이고, 

   본문의 under investigation 조사(수사)를 받고 있는 

 

 : The state police are investigating the incident.

 : The authorities are planning to launch a full-scale investigation into the crash.

 : The whole issue is still under investigation. 

                                밑줄 친 부분 under investigation 은 = being investigated 로 바꿔 표현할 수 있습니다. 

 

 

3. abroad 해외에(서) 라는 의미로 

   aboard 탑승한 ... 과 구분하셔야 합니다. 

 

 : She often goes abroad on business.
 : We never travelled abroad when we were kids.
 : A lot of goods are imported from abroad.

 

 : The plane crashed, killing all 200 people aboard.
 : The boat swayed as he stepped aboard.

 

 

 

Grammar  

 

Between Iran and the United States military attacks and revenge attacks have dominated the headlines over the past couple weeks but there`s [another / the other] event under investigation in Iran and abroad.

 

another ... (여러 개 중에서) 어느 하나 ... 를 의미합니다. 

the other ... (정해진 집합 내에서) 나머지 ... 라는 의미입니다.

 

본문에서는 

이란과 미국 사이에 지난 몇 주간에 걸쳐서 여러 공격이나 사건들이 발생했는데,

그러한 사건들 이외에 또 어느 하나의 사건이 발생했다라는 의미이므로, another ... 입니다.
